There’s no question the Bay Area taco scene boasts a dedicated following. But which taco takes the trophy? A week ago, we asked readers to help us choose the region’s top tacos, bracket-style. And you delivered, narrowing down our reader-nominated 32 selections, first to the Savory 16 and now the elite eight.
One clear trend has emerged in this bracket. Bay Area taco devotees appear to prefer the casual and affordable taqueria experience to the gourmet restaurant scene.
La Victoria, which has six locations, including five in San Jose, beat out Berkeley’s Guacamole 61, by nearly double the votes, while Fremont food truck Tacos Negris pulled a massive upset when it bested Sausalito’s Copita. Meanwhile, Taqueria Sinaloa, with locations in Berkeley and Oakland, took the win over widely-loved Tacolicious by 243 votes.
So, what now? Cast your votes, taco fans! Weigh in on the brackets below from now until noon Thursday, Feb. 15. We’ll unveil the Final Four on Friday at 6 a.m.
